NEW BOOK SHARES CONVERSATIONS WITH INDIGENOUS HEALERS
A health practitioner has written a book about Indigenous healing practices and how they should be incorporated into the health, education and justice systems.
Valerie Albrecht spent nine years traveling and conducting interviews she describes in her new book, ‘One Voice Medicine’.
She visited Indigenous healers in towns and remote communities in the Pilbara, Central Australia and western New South Wales.
Ms Albrecht said the healers all shared a key message.
“All of the healers and Elders in those places, the main thing is about, ‘Healing’s in the land,’” she said.
“[They said to me], ‘Take our people out and talk to us on the land. Know that medicine’s in all things: the plants, the animals, the rocks.”
Ms Albrecht is currently in the Pilbara to share copies of the book with some of the healers she wrote about.
The book will be available to the public soon.
