MUSICIANS HONOUR CASSIUS TURVEY
A new song has been released to honour the memory of Cassius Turvey, the Noongar-Yamatji schoolboy who was allegedly murdered in an unprovoked attack last month.
Noongar Wongi rapper Joshua Eggington, who performs as Flewnt, was one of more than a dozen Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists who appeared on the track.
He said the First Nations people had been united in grief over Cassius’s death.
“I wanted to talk about how proud I am that we come from a community that will unite together in harsh times,” Mr Eggington said.
“We always back each other and we’re always there. Everyone’s mob. Everyone’s family.”
“So that’s why my opening line was ‘A community united/black love on display.’”
“Because we all came together for the mourning of a beautiful young Noongar-Yamatji brother.”
