Ten kilometres out of Broome on the Gibbs River Road is the community of Mowanjum.

Recently, they celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Mowanjum festival.

The festival also showcased performances and revival of Junba, a traditional song and dance, which is significant for the community to ensure the passing of knowledge and culture to the next generation.

Kallum Mungulu is a talented artist, singer, and songwriter for The Krui3ers. He is also a master totem maker for the Junba at the Mowanjum Festival.

He said that 25 years ago, community elders voted that it would be good to showcase our culture to a broader audience rather than keep it to ourselves.

“It is also a tribute to our elders that we  have lost through the years,”

“This Festival is all about the continuation from our elders and keeping cultures strong,” he said
