Members of the public are invited to a community meeting to have their say about developments at Murujuga, the Burrup Peninsula.

Organiser Patrick Churnside said the group Save Our Songlines called the meeting.

“This is a chance for people to speak for Country and share how they may feel about industry on the Burrup,” he said. “But also how some of those impacts of industry is affecting the environment and country out there. This is a call for community and people to come out openly and speak about the Burrup if they so wished.”

The meeting is intended to help people respond now that the Federal Government has appointed a special reporter to investigate claims that human activity is threatening rock art at Murujuga and the Dampier Archipelago.

“It basically opens up a whole new level of discussion and conversation about what’s happening on Country, and maybe some of those discussions about how decisions can be made or what those decisions are,” he said.

The meeting at Roebourne’s 50 Cent Hall is this Tuesday starting at 10am.
