MĀORI FAMILY SMASH MARINO LAMBS SHEARING RECORD IN WA

Last week, three Māori shearers smashed the world Marino lamb shearing record title in Cranbrook, Western Australia.

1,603 lambs were shorn by Lou and Jim Brown and their cousin Imran Sullivan in 8 hours. The previous world record was 1,208 lambs,  set in 2003!

Lou Brown told Ngaarda Media that he wanted to get his family involved so that the world could get to know them.

“My family, I wanted to get them recognised not just as shearers but their personalities.  Being at the top of my game, it's good to bring other people up with you as well. It was my plan and something we always spoke about as kids,” he said.

This is the second record for Lou Brown who shore 497 sheep, beating the previous record of 466 set in 2003.  He accomplished this in 2019.

“We got to work as a team.  But we all had our individual goals. Personally, I think we wanted to shear more than we actually did, because of the weather and the way things were panning out it stopped us from getting what we really wanted which was 600 each,” he said.
