MAN CHARGED OVER ROEBOURNE STATUE VANDALISM
In the Pilbara, the Roebourne Police have charged a man in relation to the damage to the Ngarluma, Yindjibarndi and Marudhunera statues at Mt Welcome.
The statues were damaged and stolen in mid-January and were recovered by police in late January.
Police say extensive enquiries identified the suspect last week and the male charged with Criminal damage will appear in court today.
The statues were first installed in 2016, alongside statues representing the Banjima, Kurruma, Yaburara and Kariyarra peoples.
Each statue is facing towards its language group’s country.
