LIBS CANDIDATE TRAVELS INLAND
Liberal Party candidate Will Baston has been visiting inland towns in his bid to win the coming by-election for North West Central.
Mr Baston said the main issues for his electorate were health care, youth crime, housing and the cost of living.
Ngaarda Media asked why Aboriginal people should vote for him.
“I am a person who believes in everyone,” he said. “I’m not a person who, just because I come from a pastoral family, thinks pastoralists are the only way forward for the management of country. I believe in having people on country and respecting Aboriginal cultural heritage as well as European heritage. And I believe that going forward, our economy needs to be diversified, encouraging Aboriginal groups and Traditional Owner groups and Prescribed Bodies Corporate, working with pastoralists on country and conservation groups, with tourism and mining sectors.”
The by-election has been called to fill the vacancy created when Vince Catania announced his resignation.
The election will be held on September 17.
