RAYLEEN COUNCILLOR: AN ILLUMINATING PATH TO RECOVERY AND SELF-EMPOWERMENT
Rayleen Councillor, a woman of Karrajarri and Naaguja descent, has experienced life’s trials and tribulations, including physical, emotional, and spiritual hardships. Yet, these challenges have not deterred her; instead, they have forged her into a resilient individual committed to healing and empowering others.
Using her life experiences, coupled with her formal education, she has developed a strong commitment to contributing to the healing of others.
A significant part of Rayleen’s healing work involves the We Al-li program. This program, which translates to ‘fire and water’ in the Woppaburra Language of the Kanomie clan of Keppel Island, symbolizes a process of cleansing and renewal.
It is a culturally informed trauma-integrated healing framework that incorporates indigenous cultural healing practices with Western trauma therapies.
“I come from a long line of healers. I guess it just comes naturally, you know just I used to do Hands-On healing, but I try not to do that nowadays because as I'm getting older, I'm getting tired”’.
