In the Pilbara, staff from Karratha Primary School are encouraging parents to enrol Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children aged between zero and three in the Kindilink program.

Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer Lucielle Jimbidie said the program can provide support for families.

‘‘It’s set up to get families more involved in a school environment and help parents communicate more with their children in a learning environment,” she said.

Kindilink coordinator Natasha Eddy said a range of activities took place in the program.

‘‘We do some learning games that are activities that are set up for the parents to have a look at and to do with their children,” she said.

“They all involve just a lot of talking with their children.

‘‘We have messy play activities set up all of the time for the children to get messy and have fun with.’’

Kindilink classes take place at Karratha Primary School on Thursdays and Fridays from 8.30 am until 11.30 am.

Kindilink is also held in Roebourne at Gurlu Gurlu Maya on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9.30 am until 12.30 am.
