In the Pilbara, the Ieramagadu/Roebourne country duo Jokeria are preparing to release their third album.

A release date for the first single ‘Forgotten Town’ will be announced soon.

Singer and songwriter Kendall Smith said the song was inspired by a name change for his local government area.

“‘Forgotten Town’ was a song I wrote not too long after the local government decided to change the name of our local area from the Shire of Roebourne to the City of Karratha,” he said.

“A few people in the community, especially in Roebourne where I call home, expressed their opinions about how there was not much consultation as to whether people even wanted that to happen, let alone what they would change it to.

“As a songwriter, I pick up little things like that as I go about day-to-day life.”

Jokeria spent part of last month on the road, performing at the Boyup Brook Country Music Festival and attending the awards ceremony for the WA Country Music Awards, where they were nominated for the Group/Duo of the Year Award.
