The Indigenous Marathon Project is searching for 12 participants to join its 2023 squad.

Team members will embark on a six-month program, culminating in a trip to the US for the New York Marathon.

The Project was established by former world marathon champion Rob de Castella in 2010.

132 First Nations people have passed through the program since then.

Mr de Castella said that for participants, the program is about more than just long-distance running.

“It’s more about unleashing personal growth and leadership and giving them a platform to speak about issues that they’re really passionate about seeing change,” he said.

Applications are open to all Indigenous Australians aged 18-30 with no prior running experience necessary.
