I WANT JUSTICE: JC's MOTHER
The mother of J.C says she “wants justice” after the Police Officer accused of her killing was found ‘Not Guilty’ last Friday.
Speaking to Ngaarda News, Mrs Jones described her daughter: “She was very pleasant girl and very very well respected by everybody.
And she took pride in herself, because a lot of people respected her and we always all of us respected her and she respected us.”
JC was shot in Geraldton in 2019 following a stand-off with police after reports of a woman walking the streets with a knife.
The Police Officer who shot the Yamatji woman and mother said during his trial he was acting in self-defence after JC “raised” the knife in his direction and he feared for his life.
The prosecution argued JC was standing still and not posing a threat and the Officer acted “recklessly”.
Mrs Jones says she can’t understand why the jury went with the ‘Not Guilty’ verdict. “I don't know. I don't understand. I didn't understand why. “
Several protests were held across the country, including Geraldton and Perth, but remained peaceful throughout, something Mrs Jones wanted.
“I just want to get Justice. That's all I want.”
Mrs Jones says she isn’t sure about a possible appeal, but is investigating the possibility.
