HOUSING CRISIS CONTINUES TO AFFECT SERVICE RECRUITMENT IN PILBARA

A Pilbara employer has said the housing shortage is making it harder to recruit professional talent to the region.

Yaandina Community Services, which operates out of Roebourne, provides a range of services including aged care and youth support.

CEO Emma Dumbrell said the crisis is making it harder to bring in talent from outside the Pilbara.

“Our preference is to recruit locally, but if we need to recruit people for clinical roles, we don’t have anywhere to house them,” she said.

“We can’t offer them an employment contract if we can’t offer them housing, so it is impacting on us as an organisation quite significantly.”
