Noongar-Yamatji Greens Senator Dorinda Cox launched a campaign for a truth-telling commission in Western Australia, last week.

Truth-telling is about the history of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and Senator Cox said this is an important ongoing process of healing and reconciliation in Western Australia.

‘‘We need to start ensuring that all West Australians are able to hear from First Nations people the importance of what happened in this state, before we can move on to a more broader Australian History,’’ she said.

Ms. Cox said she is campaigning for WA to align with all elements of the Uluru Statement from the Heart.

“I think it’s really important for people to understand that it shouldn’t be seen as a competition,” she said.

‘‘I don’t feel that the elements of the Uluru Statement of the Heart should be in a hierarchical structure, I think they’re all complementary and I think they’re all enabling within each other.’’
