GERARD LOCKYER'S GREAT PUSH UP CHALLENGE

Gerard Lockyer on Day 17 of the Push-Up Challenge

Mental health and physical health have been heavily linked in recent years as mental health awareness continues to rise. The push up challenge is aimed to raise awareness between the use of fitness as a way to improve your mood to combat mental health issues.

The challenge entails completing a total of 3294 push ups within 24 days which is based on 2022 data of the 3294 deaths in 2022 due to mental health. Health worker Gerard Lockyer, one of the push up challenge contender’s, says

“I’m currently on a weight loss journey so I decided to take part to better myself, better my health and better my family, especially in my line of work where I see the effects of mental health problems first hand, especially in aboriginal men.”

“I video myself doing the push ups and post it on social media. So, if I’m doing it and people are seeing it, then others are being inspired by me and want to join up for a good cause. I see it as, I'm doing it to better myself but if I can touch somebody, I'll be happy too.”

The challenge started on the 5th of June and finishes on the 28th of June, but those interested can join in at any time during. Donations can be made to Life line or by visiting www.thepushupchallenge.com.au
