FUNERAL FAMILY STILL DISAPPOINTED

Members of the Tittums family are disappointed they have still not been able to meet the Shark Bay Hotel’s owner after the pub shut unexpectedly over the long weekend.

More than 300 family members were in town to attend funerals for two cousins who had died in Geraldton and Karratha.

Family spokesperson Del Wedding said the family was not so concerned about the liquor restrictions suddenly imposed, but that the pub they had booked for the wake closed abruptly.

This was reportedly due to staffing issues.

DEL WEDDING REPOSTE GRAB 21 sec “The Shark Bay pub is our meeting place,” she said. “Everybody that goes to Shark Bay says: ‘I’ll meet you at the pub’.”

Ms Wedding said the family’s disappointment started when the pub closed because, as she put it, they had nowhere to go.

Publican Shane Jones said he would not be meeting Ms Wedding.

“I have already responded to Wirriya Wilamaya Womens Aboriginal Corporation via email on the 13th June explaining why the hotel was closed for the two days,” he wrote in an email.

“There will be no further comment or meeting.”
