This coming weekend, a Pilbara disability support service provider will hold an event in Karratha to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

On December 3, Good Turn Disability Support Services will hold the event at the Tambrey from 10 am until 1 pm.

Director Sunali Sathe said there will be a range of service providers present and various activities.

“We are hosting a Paralympic athlete who plays badminton and represents Australia in multiple games,” Ms Sathe said.

“Her name is Caitlin Dransfield. She has cerebral palsy since birth. Her journey is quite interesting to see and very inspiring.”

Ms Sathe said she wants to raise awareness that it’s okay to seek help.

“I struggle with depression myself, and the there’s a lot of stigma in the mental heatlh sector,” she said.

“I didn’t get support until I realised, ‘there’s something wrong, I need to get help.’

“Getting that support system not just helped me mentally, but physically. I was able to be myself and I met people. It goes a long way, a little help.”
