EAST KIMBERLEY TOURISM BOOMS
GEOFF VIVIAN
After several lean years due to COVID-19, Halls Creek Shire president says tourism is booming in the east Kimberley.
Mr Edwards said a steady stream of caravaners often drained the tanks at the local Shell Roadhouse.
“So many times I go up there and I just see the bowers with tags over them saying they’re closed,” he said. “And you get everybody down at the Toyota, all a big queue of cars down there fueling. There is that many tourists.”
Mr Edwards said people had to pre-book to get a campsite at the Bungle Bungle.
“The amount of tourists coming through now is staggering,” he said. “I went into the Bungles on the weekend and it’s chock-a-block, you have to pre-book to get in there. It’s absolutely fully booked. No space whatsoever, all the campsites are full.”
