DR JANINE GERTZ SPEAKS ABOUT INDIGENOUS NATION-BUILDING AT THE ‘DEVELOPING NORTHERN AUSTRALIA’ CONFERENCE

Dr Janine Gertz is a Research Fellow at the University of Queensland’s Centre for Indigenous Futures.

Her research interests centre on the political representation and self-government strategies of Indigenous Nations and are grounded in her community development work with the Gugu Badhun Aboriginal Nation.

She spoke to Ngaarda Media’s Tangiora Hinaki about self-determination for First Nations. 

“My people Gugu Badhun we're going through a process of Designing and a whole of workshops and discussions and building the political literacy of our people around these sort of thing, but like what we're doing is designing the cultural values that underpin an economic development framework”
