A government department is investigating the appearance of 27 fish carcasses found dumped in Point Samson.

Holidaymakers Paula and Roy Cole found the red emperor carcasses on Saturday morning, with the fillets taken and the frames and heads dumped.

Ms Cole said the discovery was disturbing.

“We think that it’s a total waste and whoever did it should be prosecuted,” she said.

“It’s setting a bad example for our future generations. Little kids see that, and they think it’s okay to do that, but it’s just not okay.”

Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) Karratha Supervising Fisheries and Marine Officer Michael Dunn said the matter was being investigated and urged people not to dump fish waste in local waterways as it can attract sharks.
