THOUSANDS OF FAMILY VIOLENCE INCIDENTS IN THE PILBARA THIS YEAR: POLICE

Sergeant Rob Borbely in the Ngaarda Media studios.

Police have recorded almost 3000 family violence incidents across the Pilbara since the first of January this year, according to a local Sergeant.

Roebourne Police Sergeant Rob Borbely said most of those incidents involved alcohol.

Yesterday, Sergeant Borbely said there were 9 family violence incidents recorded in the Roebourne area in the week prior.

He said family violence is not necessarily physical, but could also be emotional, such as “controlling behaviour [or] manipulative behavior”.

Sergeant Borbely said help is available for victims and perpetrators.

“What we need to remember is if you’re involved in family violence and you’re not prepared to come to the police, there are a lot of agencies around you can reach out to for support in the family environment,” he said.
