A Noongar woman living in Hedland called Ngaarda Media on Monday saying she felt unsafe in the State Government housing she had just moved into

However a Department of Communities spokesman said staff visited the property that day and confirmed the property was “safe and secure to appropriate standards”.

“Some works were confirmed completed and where identified Communities raised further work orders to address other non-critical issues that can be addressed while the tenant is in occupancy,” he wrote.

“Some of the works, which are more cosmetic are to be completed within 28 days. Critical works are to be completed within 48 hours.

“Communities can confirm that the property meets security standards and is therefore secure.”

Sophie Davis said all of the urgent security works were done within hours of Ngaarda Media contacting the Department on Monday.

In fact her property manager was there within two hours.

“She came and fixed the flyscreen doors, gave me new keys, she gave me a new lock,” Ms Davis said. “She sent two workers around to put patches in the toilet and cover the doors that had holes in it and next day she sent a window man to fix the window.
