DEATH IN CUSTODY AT HAKEA PRISON
A 40-year-old Aboriginal man has died in custody at Hakea Prison.
The West Australian has identified the man as Ashley Bropho, who was imprisoned for attempting to sexually abuse a child.
The West reports he is suspected to have been beaten to death.
The man was found unresponsive in his cell just after 8 am on Wednesday, according to the Department of Justice.
The Department said prison staff provided first aid and paramedics attended the scene but were unable to revive the man.
A WA Police spokesperson said detectives from the Major Crime Division will attend the prison to investigate.
The prison is assisting police with their investigation and a report will be prepared for the coroner, according to the Department.
