COLD NIPS WA TOUR: PROMOTING MENTAL WELL-BEING THROUGH COMMUNITY CONNECTION
BY ASAD KHAN AND DANIEL LANE
The Cold Nips movement is making waves across Western Australia, promoting well-being and positive mental health through the invigorating practice of cold water dipping. Founded as a community initiative, Cold Nips encourages individuals to embrace the cold, fostering connections and encouraging healthier lifestyles.
The tour, which kicked off recently, aims to engage communities by inviting participants to take a dip in icy waters during the early hours of the morning.
While yesterday's event at Dampier Beach had to be adjusted due to low tides, participants still enjoyed the thrill of cold dips in ice-filled inflatable pools, showcasing the group’s adaptability and commitment to promoting wellness.
Teigan Woollard, the organizer of Cold Nips, spoke with Ngaarda Media about the origins and impact of this burgeoning movement.
“The creation of Cold Nips was inspired by Jian, a co-founder who experienced the benefits of cold dipping with a friend,
“After just two weeks, they saw such positive changes that they decided to open the experience to others. Within five weeks of starting an Instagram account, they had gathered 250 people, indicating a strong desire for community connection.”
As part of the ongoing tour, Cold Nips will be visiting Coral Bay, Denham, Kalbarri, and Geraldton before culminating in a grand finale at Scarborough Beach in Perth on November 9th.
The initiative has already dipped approximately 3,000 participants, garnering enthusiastic feedback about its mental health benefits.
“It’s hard to pinpoint just one memorable moment from this tour,” Ms Woollard said.
“Each location has brought unique experiences, especially the smaller towns where community engagement has been incredibly rewarding.”
The Cold Nips movement emphasizes the importance of community without resorting to unhealthy habits, creating an inclusive environment where participants can connect authentically.
“We've had epic feedback so far, and everyone resonates with the mental health aspect of what we’re doing,”
“We're not just dipping in the cold; we’re raising funds for happiness and well-being.” she said.
Cold Nips continues to expand its reach across Australia, fostering a sense of belonging and encouraging individuals to live happier, healthier lives.
As the tour progresses, the impact of this ice-breaking initiative is sure to resonate well beyond the shores of Western Australia.
