Filipino ex pats in Karratha are preparing to celebrate the country’s Independence Day on Saturday.

Filipino Community Association in Karratha president Joseph Almonte promised a day of traditional dance, music, folklore and food.

“Our vision is to form a strong Filipino-Australian community in Karratha,” he said. “Which promotes unity, cameraderie, and support … in recognising the needs of the Filipino community.”

Mr Almonte said they had booked the Karratha Leisureplex and sold all 300 tickets they had printed, but more places were available.

Geraldton's Filipinos have canceled their planned Independence Day celebration due to COVID concerns, and Ngaarda Media understands there will be no celebrations in Perth and Albany this year.
