Five remote Aboriginal communities in the Pilbara are isolated due to flooding which has cut off roads in and out.

Jigalong, Kiwirrkurra, Kunawarritji, Parnngurr and Punmu communities have been isolated for around six days.

DFES Pilbara Superintendent Darryl Ray says work is underway to restock supplies to the communities, which will likely be cut off for another 5 to 7 days.

The closures come after seven people were rescued in the Goldfields after being stranded for days in flooded areas of the Goldfields region.

Mr Ray says people in the communities are safe but should continue to stay put.

“Our message for everyone is to stay safe,” he said.

“We don’t want to see what happened to a family out in the Goldfields. We don’t people to drive through floodwaters. We don’t want them to drive through roads that are closed because they’re going to get stuck.”
