BROOME YOUTH WEEK 2025 WRAPS UP WITH COMMUNITY SPIRIT AND CREATIVITY

BY ASAD KHAN

A week of colour, connection and creativity has come to a close, with the Shire of Broome’s Youth Week 2025 drawing hundreds of young people and families to free events held across town from 11 to 17 April.

The festivities launched with an opening party at Broome Skatepark on 11 April, featuring professional skate and scooter demos, an inflatable wrecking ball, face painting, and free pizza and gelato.

Workshops held between 12 and 14 April gave young people the chance to build skills and confidence through skate and scooter sessions with professional instructors.

Creative workshops led by acclaimed Yawuru artist Brenton E. McKenna at Broome Public Library encouraged artistic expression through comic storytelling and character development.

Targeted programs at Broome Youth and Families Hub and Broome PCYC ensured inclusive access to these activities for young people who may face barriers to participation.

“Youth Week is about more than just entertainment,” said Shire President Chris Mitchell.

“It’s about recognising and celebrating the energy, creativity, and potential of our young people.”

Youth Week 2025 was supported by Rio Tinto, INPEX, and the Department of Communities.
