INTERVIEW: MURUJUGA-INSPIRED ARTWORK TO BE EXHIBITED IN BOORLOO
An exhibition will be launched tomorrow in Boorloo/Perth to showcase art inspired by the Pilbara’s world-heritage nominated Murujuga cultural landscape.
The exhibition ‘Murujuga - celebration of an ancient cultural landscape’ will feature artwork by both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal artists.
It takes place between 1 July and 24 August at the Holmes à Court Gallery @ no.10 in West Perth.
Artists to be exhibited include: Rodney Adams, Josie Alec, Marina Baker, Bernard Carney, Wendy Castleden, Carmel Charlton, Jill Churnside, Raelene Cooper, Judith Coppin, Tootsie Daniel, Melanie Dare, Gladys Dove, Pam Fruin, Andy Glandt, Alice Guinness, Marlene Harold, Pansy Hicks, Wendy Hubert, Janet Hummerston, David Hummerston, Rosemary Hunter, Andrea and Peter Hylands, Kirsten Jeffcoat, Maudie Jerrold, Tony Jones, Lesley Meaney, Clyde McGill, Tyson Mowarin, John Petrie, Dawn Sandy, Melissa Sandy, Loreen Samson, Violet Samson, Susan Sheppard, Angela Stewart, Susan Swain, Michele Theunissen, Julianne Waldock, Renee Wally, Lyn Ward, Wendy Warrie, Sharon Warrie, and Mary Watson.
Susan Swain from Friends of Australian Rock Art (FARA) is a displaying artist and co-convenor of the exhibition.
She spoke to Ngaarda Media’s Sam Walker about the exhibition, and the cultural protocols that were followed in putting it together with the help of Yindjibarndi Elder Tootsie Daniel.
