The Blak Sovereign Movement is planning rallies to take place across Australia this weekend against government inaction on deaths in custody.

The protests will demand the government enact the recommendations of the 1991 Royal Commission into Aboriginal deaths in custody.

Deaths in Custody Watch Committee WA was approached by the Blak Sovereign Movement to organise a protest to be held in Boorloo on Saturday.

Deaths in Custody Deputy Chair Desmond Blurton said he hoped people would attend regardless of how they planned to vote in the Voice to Parliament referendum.

“We can make a clearer path for our future, providing we come together, so I urge everyone to come this weekend, whether you’re a ‘yes’ or a ‘no’,” he said.

“I urge the community to get behind this one and stand as one mob.”

The rally will take place at Forrest Place in Perth at 1 pm on Saturday 7 October.
