ARCHEOLOGICAL EVIDENCE FOR YINJIBARNDI RELIGION
GEOFF VIVIAN
In the Pilbara, an anthropologist turned archaeologist says his new research shows Yinjibarndi people practised and continue to practise their own religion.
Phil Davies, who has submitted his Master’s thesis to Flinders University, said he had studied four Yinjibarndi artefacts and found they had no purpose other than a religious one.
These included rock engravings, body paint, a musical instrument and an arrangement of stones.
