A mobile phone app developed to help tourists plan interesting drives through the Pilbara is in the running to win a prestigious state award.

Pilbara Tourism Association project officer Neil McGilp said the app and 56-page adventure guide were central to marketing the Warlu Way.

“They wanted to develop a drive route that followed the trail of the Warlu, the Dreamtime serpent, from Exmouth all the way through to Broome,” he said. “The majority of that’s through the Pilbara.”

The 2022 WA Tourism Awards are to be announced at a Gala Dinner in November, with the “Destination Pilbara” campaign a finalist in the category: Tourism Marketing & Campaigns.

In the Deluxe Accommodation category, judges named the Onslow Beach Resort as the only finalist.
