ANTI-WAR, ANTI-NUCLEAR AND PALESTINE SOLIDARITY GROUPS TO PROTEST TODAY THE INDIAN OCEAN DEFENCE AND SECURITY CONFERENCE

Anti-war and pro-Palestinian groups will protest outside the Indian Ocean Defence and Security Exhibition in Perth.

The protest is hosted by Stop AUKUS WA, Nuclear Free WA , Independent Peaceful Australia Network and Friends of Palestine WA.

The groups say they see this under the guise of security to shore up Australia’s alliance with war-mongering Nations and that it perpetuates Western colonialism.

Student activist Erin Russell said she is outraged that Curtin University is a major sponsor of this event, promoting war and militarism.

“We think it's pretty obscene to be holding a conference that's all about the drive to war and profiting out of it, especially with what's happening in Palestine at the moment and the fact that a lot of the weapons companies involved in this conference,”

She said Australia’s government has continued to support Israel even if it has seldomly shown concern about the death toll in Palestine.

“That is all about just gearing up for war, profiting out of war for these weapons companies,

“ We don't want them to feel like they're welcome in Perth,”
