ALBANESE SAYS VOICE WON’T BE HEARD ON CLIMATE

Anthony Albanese was unimpressed by a question on whether the Voice would provide advice on climate and energy policy.

The Prime Minister has said an Indigenous Voice to Parliament would not provide advice on climate and energy policy.

At a press conference, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said a question on whether the Voice would be consulted about climate change was “very strange”.

“The Voice is about matters that directly affect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people,” he said.

“People shouldn’t look for, on the Voice, distractions.”

Last year, the United Nations found Australia’s former Coalition government violated the rights of Torres Strait Islanders by failing to act on climate change and contributing to rising sea levels.
