PILBARA FASHION DESIGNER HEADING TO NEW YORK

Port Hedland mother Nat Dann is still buzzing from her debut at this year’s AfterPay Australian Fashion week event.

“I had just done Australia fashion week which was amazing and successful and then an opportunity popped up for New York Fashion Week. The actual show is called Flying Solo’. Applicants from around the world apply and it’s a small panel that judges designers from everywhere.”

“ I saw it and thought I would do it for fun out of curiosity to find out what they think of my stuff and then a week later I found out that I had been successful and they have formerly invited me to New York for New York fashion week.

Nat Dann is a Bardi / Nyul Nyul / Nyikina woman from the Kimberley but raised in Port Hedland. Nat is a mother of one and the founder and designer of Ihraa Swim and she is one of ten fashion designers that has been chosen to go to New York.

“My swimwear which I founded in Hedland is inspired by the Kimberley and the Pilbara and my culture. An important part of my line is that it is eco-friendly to the environment. All our bikinis are made through fabrics that are recycled plastics from fishing nets from the oceans and also feature local indigenous artist prints as well.”

Ms Dann is looking forward to the opportunity to rub shoulders with the rich and famous but needs your help to get there. She has set up a Go Fund Me Page and will give a 10 per cent discount to those who give to the cause.
