DERBY WOMAN INDUCTED INTO HALL OF FAME

WA Women’s Hall of Fame

Worora and Walmajarri woman Katina Law made history in 2017 when she became the first Aboriginal woman to chair an ASX-listed company.

Today, Ms Law operates an Aboriginal lead corporate consulting firm called IPS Management Consultants and she was inducted into the WA Women Hall of fame last week alongside five Aboriginal trail-blazers.

Wajarri, Badimaya and Wilunyu woman, Doctor Charmaine Papertalk Green, Yamatji-Noongar Greens Senator Dorinda Cox; Noongar Elder Dorothy Bagshaw; Banjima director of Aboriginal Health Strategy Nola Naylor and Yindjibarndi dean of Indigenous Futures at Curtin University Mandy Downing were all bestowed with the honour.

Ms. Law said the award was an opportunity to look back at the journey she had taken.

“It’s a great honour to be inducted, there are not many women who have achieved that, but also I guess it’s a bit of an emotional journey for me,” she said.

“It offers an opportunity to stop and look back at what I’ve achieved over my life, and to reflect on the hard work that has gone into that, and the sacrifices that have been made.”

Ms. Law holds a BA in Commerce from UWA, is a certified practising Accountant, and holds an MBA from London Business School.

Ms. Law’s advice for people getting started in business is to think about what their service could do for others.

“Have a good idea, and really think about what it is you’re going to do to solve someone’s problem,” she said.

“You want people to buy your product you need to solve their problems.”
