HAKA FOR LIFE- INDIGENOUS PEOPLE COME TOGETHER FOR ANZAC DAY
Leon Ruri is the founder and creator of the Haka for Life, an indigenous-led organization with a mission to reduce suicide across Australia.
This Anzac Day, a powerful moment will occur when a gathering of people will perform a Noongar corroboree and a Māori haka, during the dawn service at the Supreme Court Gardens, in Boorloo/Perth.
By expressing themselves through these traditional performances, Aboriginal and Māori people continue to strengthen their unique relationship between Australia and New Zealand.
‘‘ Events like this is just an opportunity for people to come and learn the culture”.
We've got to practice this Sunday at the Supreme Court Court Gardens from 1 p.m. To 4 p.m. And we're getting to get with our mob that we're doing our Coroberee and Haka with we're coming to yarn we're coming to educate people we're coming to learn.
We're coming to connect, and essentially as, the intention behind why I'm so passionate about Anzac Day and bringing our cultures together is that we make it inclusive for all the community to be able to come and learn culture to be able to come and learn about Anzac Day and learn more about each other and if we can do that, especially in our world today is that I think that know, we stepped away from the world were we used to be really connected’’ Said Leon Ruri.
