NORTH WEST NETBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS 2024
Netball doesn’t often make the headlines on the back page, but last weekend, the North West Netball Championships took place. Karratha eventually beat Broome 52 to 42, taking the trophy.
Three local women who all come from the same family, Rose, Karorina, and Tracey Lee Kingi, called into Ngaarda Media to tell us about their journey and why they love to play netball.
Rose Kingi started off by talking about her success in the Sport. She ran her own netball club for three years and coached them, taking home the win for their senior division in 2024.
She said, “the highlight’s of my career and netball would be seeing Junior’s take the pathway with my coaching tips that I'm able to give them and seeing them perform them’’.
Karorina, Rose’s sister’s netball journey started when she was only 11 years old. Her position in netball has always been goal shooter. Karorina loves playing netball; it's one of her passions.
Karorina helped their netball team win the 2024 North West netball championships.
“ it keeps me fit and makes me feel young”. Said Karorina King.
Tracey Lee Kingi, Rose’s daughter has always loved playing netball. She started playing at 7 years old, and her passion for it grew from there. Tracey has played open court state and indoor state, representing Western Australia.
Tracey is currently taking a break from playing competitively because she would like to spend more time with her family.
Tracey explained, ”It's just been very long, I guess, and just thought I'd want to break so I could spend time with family. And if I return, yeah, I probably will, just cause netball is a passion of mine. So can't really stop a passion”.
