13 YARN SHOWS SUPPORT FOR LGBTQIA+ COMMUNITY AT BLAK PRIDE FESTIVAL
BY ASAD KHAN
13YARN is the first national crisis support line for the mob feeling overwhelmed or having difficulties coping with struggles of life. The service offers a confidential one-on-one yarning opportunity with Lifeline-trained Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Crisis Supporter 24/7, seven days a week.
13YARN’s team attended the Blak Pride Festival in Broome last week to show support and let to the community know about the resources available across Australia for them free of cost.
13 Yarn’s National Program Manager Marjorie Anderson said one of the things we are doing differently is that we are co-designed by the community for the community.
She said she wants the mob to know there is no problem too small and there is no problem too big if we work together.
”So we're we sound different when you ring us and the experience of ringing 13yarn is vastly different to ringing Lifeline, we are less formal much more conversational., It's about having a yarn to feel better
“We've had people come up to us in the community and say you've saved my life and that's what makes it important for us. If we even say one life a year. It is worth having 13YARN there.
