Minister MacTiernan visits Victoria Hotel

Minister Alannah MacTiernan was in #Roebourne today to talk with indigenous trainees from GBSC Yurra and to see the restoration process of the Victoria Hotel.

“It’s wonderful to see this fabulous old hotel being restored, it’s going to be a centrepiece for the Roebourne community,” she said. “This is more a community development project, not simply a hotel restoration project.” Ms MacTiernan did not commit to the government funding stage two of the project until stage one proves to be a success. “I think we’ve got to focus on getting stage one up and running and showing that it works – when we’ve kicked some goals in relation to stage one then’s the time to start talking about stage two,” she said.

The Yindjibarndi Aboriginal Corporation received $6 million to support the restoration of the Victoria Hotel. The Federal Government contributed $2 million through the National Stronger Regions Fund. #YAC put in $2 million and the Pilbara Development Commission pitched in $2 million through the Pilbara Economic Diversification Fund.
